The button is normally an open switch. When pressed/pushed, the contacts short closed (connect) and when released, the contacts open again. Note that when the button is pressed, and the contacts are closed, it does not lock/latch. The moment you release/remove your fingers, the contacts disconnects/opens again. These are perfect for Doorbells, Horns, and Electromagnet applications.
